Letter to Community:

Dear Putney Moves Community,

After much consideration and research, I have decided to temporarily suspend classes at Putney Moves beginning Saturday, March 14 due to Covid-19. The virus is spreading rapidly and although washing hands and sanitizing are helpful, social distancing is seen as the most effective method in reducing the spread of the coronavirus.

I cannot in good conscience keep the studio open and ask teachers and students to come to class. I care deeply about our community and want to be a part of the solution, rather than the problem and staying open creates an opportunity for the virus to continue to spread. Instead, we will suspend classes and will resume them once it is deemed safe to do so.

These are clearly challenging times for all including small businesses and we are just beginning to see what that is going to look like. By suspending our classes and keeping our community safe, we are eliminating our only revenue source yet many of our expenses will continue. As hard as it may be, I cannot let these financial considerations determine what I believe is right for our community. We cannot wait until a member of the Putney or Brattleboro community tests positive. Instead, we need to be proactive and act now.

You have the option to pause or cancel your membership while classes are suspended, however – and I know this is a big ask – if you are financially able to do so, keeping your membership active will help us cover the monthly fixed expenses as well as help us resume classes when it is safe to do so. Another option is to purchase a gift certificate (for you or someone else) that can be used when we resume classes.

Suspending operations has been a very big decision to make and one I do not take lightly. Yoga and being in community are extremely helpful during times of uncertainty and I do not want to dim this light in any way. Rather, I hope to set an example of being proactive and responsive to what we are seeing in other communities across the globe.

We have a strong community and I know we can weather this event and come out the other side stronger and more connected than ever before.

The Putney Moves teaching community is discussing ways to keep the bonds of community strong by sharing online offerings. Once we have a plan in place, I will share the details with you.

I am profoundly grateful for this community and for your support. May this journey make us stronger and bring us closer together.

May you be happy
May you be safe
May you be healthy
May you be at peace

Love,
Amanda
